The Zone Diet focuses primarily on protein intake and promises a change
in the body's insulin to glucagon ratio by altering macronutrient consumption.
Additionally, the favorable hormonal condition, known
as the Zone, is anecdotally reported to benefit elite
endurance athletes.
Applying the Zone's suggested protein, carbohydrate and fat consumption guidelines, it is obvious that it is both low
carbohydrate diet and
calorie deficient.
Notable and abundant research clearly demonstrates that the Zone Diet is not an acceptable means of improving athletic performance and will not
support competitive athletic endeavours, much less improve them.
